Bandits and Heroes, Poets and Saints – Popular Art from the Northeast of Brazil is a new
three-part exhibition project consisting of three independent but interrelated exhibitions:
• Expressions of Faith
• The Land and Its People
THE LAND AND ITS PEOPLE will focus on the sertão, the arid backlands of Brazil’s Northeast and will showcase the resilience and powerful imagination of the hardy people who make the Northeast their home. This show will feature common people and legendary heroes represented in wood sculptures, puppets, woodblock prints, and photographs. This component of Bandits and Heroes is under development and will be ready for distribution in 2009.
